vehicle with no title? PLEASE HELP?
I recently purchased a vehicle from a towing company that did not have a title. The towing company gained ownership of the vehicle when it was abandoned. They did what they were supposed to do by trying to contact the owner via certified mail but never got a response because the vehicle owner was incarcerated after the vehicle was impounded. I need to get this title but I have absolutely no idea what I need to do now.
I have gone on the Motor Vehicle Administration website and I am getting conflicting information. Can someone please help me? I really don't want to return the car to get my money back, so please don't respond if that is what you are going to say. I am willing to do the extra work in order to make it mine because this car is a gem!
I ran a carfax report on the car and there are no liens on the car and I do have the current title number for the vehicle.
In my state you take all the paperwork from the towing company to the DMV and they will issue a new title. You may need to have the vehicle inspected prior to getting the new papers for it. I suggest you go in person to the DMV and explain what you wish to do. That way, you would get an answer from a person...not confusing information from a computer. Good luck. There are a couple people here that have no clue how a tow company auction or sale works. They provide the paperwork so you can get a title. They are not responsible to get it for you. Those who suggest it is illegal for them to sell a car without the title are ignorant of how the process really works.
